1. Introduction

Scent of Home (“we”, “our”, or “the app”) is a family recipe cookbook app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices. By using the app, you agree to this policy.

We do not sell your personal information.

2. Who we are

3. Information we collect

3.1 Information you provide

• Account: Email address and display name when you sign in (Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, or email/password where available).
• Profile: Name and optional profile photo you choose.
• Recipe content: Titles, ingredients, steps, stories, notes, tags, ratings, favorites, and related metadata.
• Media: Photos you attach to recipes or occasions, and voice recordings you choose to save.
• Family cookbook: Family membership, invite codes you use, and recipes shared within a family cookbook.

3.2 Information stored on your device

• Recipes and settings are stored locally on your device (including offline use).
• JSON backups you export are saved where you choose; we do not receive those files unless you send them to us.

3.3 Cloud sync (optional)

If you sign in and use a family cookbook, recipe and family data are stored and synced using Google Firebase (Firestore and Cloud Storage) under project taste-of-home-d8da7. Only members of your family cookbook can access that shared data, subject to Firebase security rules.

3.4 Automatically collected information

• Firebase Authentication & services: Sign-in identifiers, tokens, and operational logs needed to run auth and sync.
• Advertising (Google AdMob): The app may show banner ads. Google may collect device identifiers, IP address, ad interaction data, and similar data to serve and measure ads, per Google’s Privacy Policy and Google Ads policies.
• Diagnostics: Crash or performance data may be collected by platform or SDK providers (e.g. Google/Firebase) to keep the service reliable.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.

4. How we use information

We use information to:

• Provide and improve the app (recipes, search, favorites, holidays, cook mode, family sharing).
• Authenticate users and sync data across devices.
• Store photos and audio you upload to your family cookbook.
• Display advertisements (where enabled).
• Respond to support requests and legal obligations.

5. Permissions

The app may request:

You can deny permissions in device settings; some features may not work without them.

6. Sharing with third parties

We share data only with service providers needed to run the app:

These providers process data under their own privacy policies. We do not sell your data to data brokers.

7. Data retention

• On device: Until you delete the app or clear app data.
• In the cloud: While your account and family cookbook exist. Deleting your account removes cloud data associated with your account per Firebase and our deletion flow.
• Backups you export: You control retention on your device or cloud storage.

8. Security

We use industry-standard practices (HTTPS, Firebase security rules, authenticated access). No method is 100% secure; use a strong account and keep your device updated.

9. Your rights and choices

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access, correct, or delete your personal data.
• Export your data (e.g. JSON backup in the app).
• Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
• Object to or restrict certain processing.
• Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Account deletion: Use in-app account deletion (where available) or contact us to request deletion of cloud account data.

Ads: You can limit ad tracking in your device settings (e.g. “Limit Ad Tracking” on iOS, “Opt out of Ads Personalization” on Android).

10. International transfers

Data may be processed in countries where Firebase/Google operate (including the United States). Appropriate safeguards apply under provider terms.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version with an updated “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
